A 12-year-old newspaper carrier was fatally injured when she was struck by a vehicle while riding her bike. Although she was wearing a high visibility vest, she was not wearing a helmet. She was riding out of a customer’s driveway when she was struck. Investigators recommended all carriers who ride bicycles should wear approved bike helmets, that safety should be taken into account in route assignments and that regular safety meetings be held for newspaper carriers.
