A 59-year-old worker at a plant that makes plastic bags was fatally injured after falling down industrial stairs. The victim had gone up the three flights of stairs to adjust machine settings. The stairs had smooth steel treads that can be slippery. He came down without completing the adjustments, and a co-worker found him unconscious at the bottom of the stairs. The victim was admitted to hospital with a fractured skull and died of his injuries two days later. The victim was a newly-diagnosed diabetic, but it's not known if that condition contributed to the incident.
